Tyrone Van Cooper was born in Wilmington, Delaware on September 14th, 1946. He departed this life on January 16, 2026 at the age of 79 in Syracuse, New York, after a long illness. At the age of 2 years old, Tyrone moved to Syracuse with his mother and grandmother. He attended Washington Irving and Madison Jr. High. He received a GED and took some college courses at Syracuse University. Tyrone was a lifelong employee of Crucible Steel in Solvay, where he was a Foreman and served as a Union Representative. He remained employed with Crucible Steel from the age 19 until his retirement. Tyrone was also an active employee of the Shonnard Street Boys and Girls club and a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Syracuse New York.

Tyrone played an active roll in his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews lives, from teaching the how to fly a kite, to teaching them to drive and perform an oil change. On his off time, he enjoyed playing chess, working on cars, roller skating, taking his children on bike rides to get spring water and family ski trips.

Tyrone was preceded in death by his mother Juanita Alexander-Stephen, father Arthur James Cooper, and sisters Beverly Cooper, Valerie Evans, Shirely Cooper, his granddaughter Mya Mcdonald, and his long life companion JoAnn Hargrett.

Tyrone leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved children, Omar, Kassandra, Tiffany, Monique, Chara and Ra'Shawn. Grandchildren, Je'Lia, Jeremy, La'Tiana, Omar, Jr, Nisa, Jah'Mazia, Maki and Kamore. Great Grandchildren, Marquan, Jalen, Mari, Dakota, Carson, Cameron, Savion, Riley and Vonnie. Siblings

Brother Arthur J, Cooper Jr. (Abbey), and Timothy Cooper, and sisters, Quintina Gladden, Cynthia Broadwater, Ravelle Harris-Jones, Gwendolyn Stephen, Juanita Stephen-Scott, Stephanie Cooper and Michelle Cooper. Several Aunts and uncles and a host of nieces and nephews. Tyrone was passionate about his family and friends.

Tyrone will be missed by all of us and while our hearts are heavy now we are grateful that he is at peace.

We thank him for all the knowledge he imparted to us and will look back with a smile.

Calling hours will be held, Friday January 30, 2026 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Grace Episcopal Church, 819 Madison St., Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 PM. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Services entrusted to FARONE & SON, Inc. Funeral Home.
