It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of Ulysses Wright, Sr., who peacefully entered eternal rest at home on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at the age of 89 years. He was born August 23, 1935 in Edwards, Mississippi to Ardelia and Antonio Wright.
Ulysses moved from Edwards, Mississippi to Saginaw, Michigan in 1958 seeking new opportunities. He built a successful career as a Tool and Dye Welder with General Motors Corporation where he worked for 35 years with dedication until his retirement in 1991. A devoted member Bethel A.M.E. Church since March 3, 1968, he proudly served as a member of Usher Board #2.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ulysses embraced life with passion, enthusiasm and resilience. He had a love for racing cars and proudly earned numerous trophies for his victories on the track. His interests also included fishing, hosting family barbecues and enjoying classic western movies. However; his greatest joy came from time spent with his family creating cherished memories with those he loved. He was known for being well dressed and always driving a beautiful clean Cadillac: that was his favorite car.
Ulysses was a man of deep love and generosity, always putting family first. He helped raise his grandchildren and opened his home to loved ones throughout his life. Even in his elder years, he remained a caregiver, supporting his brother-in-law with daily needs. His kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to family will never be forgotten.
Ulysses is survived by his loving wife, Warnella Humphrey Wright; six daughters, Shirley Wright, Jackson MS, Vivian Wright, Edwards, MS, Crystal Robinson, Battle Creek, MI, Toni Wright, Flint, MI, April (Lorengo) Smith, Grand Rapids, MI and Cherrie Lee, Macomb, MI; one son, Ulysses (Barbara) Wright, Jr., Carrollton, TX; three bonus sons, Terrence and Corey Humphrey, Saginaw, MI and Tory Humphrey, Seattle, WA; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Lillian Davis; brother-in-law, Warner Humphrey, Jr.; god-son, Saleem (Quentrese) Hinton, Dardenne Prairie, MO; goddaughter, LeShae Miller, Saginaw, MI; his cherished friends including Isaac Swilley, Larry Gross and Randy Warren (BooBoo#2).
Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Wright; son, Rhen Wright; granddaughter, Katrina Wright; eight brothers, UL, Willie, Freddie and Roosevelt Wright, Norris and Chester Bishop, Bobbie Williams and D.Y. Singleton; three sisters, Daisy Bishop, Robbie Williams and Mozella Bishop Flaggs.
Mr. Ulysses wright, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and kindness. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family hour 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Bethel A.M. E. Church, 535 Cathay Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48601 with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Rev. Dr. Dennis Laffoon, Pastor and Rev. P. David Saunders will officiate. Interment will take place in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, 7475 East Holland Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
