Valdez Danner Jackson was born May 14, 1931, in Meridian, Mississippi and died peacefully on June 27, 2024 at Saad’s Hospice Retreat in Mobile, Alabama, surrounded by loved ones.
Val was the second of four children born to Tiny Pearl Danner and George Danner. She was preceded in death by her dear sister, Ina Herrington, and her beloved husband of fifty-one years, L.J. Jackson. She is survived by two children, Sherry J. Garratt (Mike) and L.J. “Jack” Jackson, both of Mobile, Alabama; two grandchildren, Melissa Bolton and Jennifer Williams, and two great-grandchildren, Kendall Williams and Zackary Bolton, all of Mobile; her sisters Francis McDaniel of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Judy Morton of Meridian, Mississippi, as well as her sisters-in-law Glenda McKennion and Evelyn Culpepper, both of Collinsville, Mississippi.
Val was a quintessential southern lady who cherished her family and her church community. She was actively involved in St. Mark Methodist Church, as well as the past Potentates’ ladies at the Abba Shrine Temple where her husband was Potentate in 1992. A devoted Christian since childhood, Val was constantly expressing gratitude for the blessings she enjoyed and wanted everyone to know the joy of serving the Lord.
Val’s greatest ambition and desire was to be a good mother and grandmother – a goal she achieved with great success. Her family was the light of her life. She was known for her cookouts, dinner parties, and birthday parties. Her passion for travel mirrored that of her mother, Tiny Danner, always ready for a new adventure. Val’s sense of humor and adventurous spirit were beloved traits that endeared her to many. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.
A funeral service in her honor will be held at St. Mark Methodist Church in Mobile, Alabama on Monday, July 1, 2024. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. funeral service. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests that donations be made in her honor to St. Mark Methodist Church, Saad’s Hospice Retreat, or the charity of your choice.
