Val Jean Swancutt (Maska) was born January 13, 1936 outside of Minden, Nebraska to Carl and Sophia Maska. She passed from this life on Friday, May 9, 2025 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, Nebraska at the age of 89.
As a small child, Jean moved to the current family farm east of Macon. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1953 and moved to California for several years. After returning to Nebraska, she married George Swancutt on August 31, 1957 in Macon. She and George moved to Rolla Missouri where George was teaching at the University of Missouri.
Jean always loved horses and was an excellent rider in her youth. As an adult, she enjoyed her pet Blue Heelers and housecats. She was an avid gardener and loved watching the birds that visited her flowers and bird feeders.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and John Killoy, son Doug Swancutt (Franklin), grandchildren Rachel and husband Will Montgomery (Ontario, Canada), Renee and husband Brandon Harvey (Houston, TX), and Rhiann and husband Spencer Gregg (Denver). She is also survived by brothers Don (Minden), Arlo (Macon), Karl and Bob (both of San Diego). She was preceded in death by her husband in 2010 and daughter Leslie Ann in 1992.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Macon Union Cemetery, Macon, Nebraska with Father Paul Frank officiating. The Macon MAWS will be hosting a reception afterward at the Lions Hall.
