Valenie 'Val' Ann Reule, 82, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born on January 16, 1943, in Seattle, to John and Audree (Nyberg) Kajfas.
In her earlier years, Val had been a camp counselor for Campfire Girls (later known as Camp Fire), shepherding many a lost and lonely child. She was educated at Western Washington University and majored in English. She'd had a few different jobs over the years, including bank teller, secretary, and administrative assistant. Val worked most recently for the United States Practical Shooting Association and had retired from there after 25 years. However, she stayed on in a freelance capacity, as the proofreader for their magazine, Front Sight.
When she was at home, Val could often be found with a book, some knitting, or just puttering in the kitchen. Her quick wit, dry humor, and bad puns made chatting with her a delight. Her warm, soothing presence made her a magnet for those in need. Her table always had room for "one more".
She dedicated much of her life to creating a welcoming environment wherever she went. Whether that was at home, in an office, or in the church choir, people always felt her love and acceptance. She scooped up "strays" (four and two-legged), believing the best in all of them. Every animal was deeply loved, and every child called her Mom or Grandma.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Timothy Reule; her brother, John C. Kajfas; her children, Dave Reule and Becky Reule Martin; nine grandchildren (some biological, some chosen, all cherished); and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Audree Kajfas, and her granddaughter, Katelynn Reule.
Val loved effortlessly and was loved in return by so many. She will be greatly missed.
On Monday, August 18th, she will be buried in Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete, Washington. Her family will be hosting a party and potluck to celebrate the life of this extraordinary woman at Rasar State Park immediately after.
