A public time of reflection and visitation for Valerie Michelle Carlson, 15 of Aledo, will be held on Monday from 12:00 to 4:00 PM at Speer Funeral Home. The family will not be present. The family will hold private services and burial. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. The family requests that everyone wear Valerie’s favorite color, yellow, in her memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left for the family at Speer Funeral Home or at any Black Hawk Bank Location.

Valerie died on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at her home.

Valerie was born on February 24, 2003 in Rock Island, Illinois to James Curtis “J.C.” Carlson and Bridget Thompson Carlson. She was currently a freshman at Mercer County High School where she shared her talents in the Art Department. She especially loved painting and dancing. She had a passion for fashion and was always on trend with her clothing and make-up. Valerie loved music and spending time with her friends, especially the TAG group at the Aledo United Methodist Church. She was a devoted big sister and loved her canine companions, Koda & Zeus and guinea pig, Finn.

Those left to cherish Valerie’s memory include her mother, Bridget Carlson; father, J.C. Carlson & companion, Tabby Spence; twin sisters, Bristol & Bella Martin; step-siblings: Boston Langley, Halle Kammerman & Zakary Tucker all of Aledo; Grandparents: Larry Thompson of Aledo; Michelle “Shelly” & Rick McCaw of Aledo; Patsy Sheese of Viola, and Holly Carlson of Matherville; Great-Grandparents: Betty Carlson and Virginia DuVerney of Aledo; Bill & Lillie Lampe of Milan, Marilyn Schaffer of Edgington and Wanda VanFleet of Galesburg and Uncle and Aunt, Michael and Sarah Thompson and family.  Also surviving are many special friends, including, Tori Busch of Aledo and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Valerie was preceded in death by her grandfather, Dave Carlson and great-grandparents: Clair Thompson and Joseph DuVerney.
