DAVENPORT-Austin T. Reid, 31 of Davenport, formerly of Aledo, died February 24, 2023, in Davenport. Private family services will be held. The services can be viewed on the Speer Funeral Home Facebook page on Monday after 12:00 PM. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Aledo, Illinois. Memorials may be left to Sugar Grove Cemetery, Hamlet Cemetery or The Abbey Foundation. Austin Thomas was born on February 9, 1992, in Des Moines, Iowa to Joseph Austin & Gayle Elizabeth (Close) Reid. He was a graduate of Mercer County High School (2010), Augustana College (2014) and the Illinois Police Academy.
Austin was a gentle soul who loved his animals, especially dogs, his favorite being Leo. Austin enjoyed hanging with his friends, cousins, and siblings preeminently when the activities were the Indy 500, snow skiing, Redbud Nationals, Chicago Bears/Cubs games and alternative music concerts such as the Lucky Boys Confusion rock band. At home, he would listen to music and play video games.
Austin's memory will be cherished by his mother and step-father, Gayle Reid & Scott Jenkins; sister and fiancé, Shelby Reid & Nick Shepard; brother, Connor Reid; step-siblings, Jacob, Emmalee & Conner Jenkins; Grandparents: Rosemary Reid & David Close and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Reid and grandparents: Carol Close and Edward Reid.
