Vartouhi Betchakdjian, affectionately known as Rosig, was born on May 23, 1943 in Cairo, Egypt. She was the only child of Mardiros Kassardjian, owner of a shoe-making factory, and Meline Yaghjian, a homemaker and caregiver. Growing up in Egypt, Rosig went to Catholic school run by French nuns. It was there she learned to speak French and continued to sing French nursery rhymes and use French expressions until the end of her life. She loved trips to the beach in Egypt and played on the school volleyball team.

At 19, Rosig and her parents emigrated to the United States where they eventually settled in Palisades Park, New Jersey. Rosig worked for many years doing data processing for Faberge and later in her career was a home health aide in Bergen County.

In 1969, Rosig married Kevork Betchakdjian, a fellow Armenian immigrant from Egypt and in 1979, they welcomed their son, Ara.

After many years in Palisades Park, the family moved to Hazlet, New Jersey where Rosig enjoyed spending time sewing, playing cards and backgammon, and watching countless hours of the game show network. Rosig was a delighted observer of life and experienced true joy when seeing the next generation around her succeed and find happiness.

Rosig is survived by her son, Ara, her daughter-in-law, Linda, and her granddaughter, Sylvie, who she had the joy of spending her final months with. She is predeceased by her late husband Kevork.
