Veda Irene Schrougham

Veda Irene (Dallas) Schrougham, age 88 of Trafalgar, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, May 21, 2024 at home with her loving family by her side.
Veda was born August 4, 1935 in Brown County, to her parents, the late Chester B. and Verna (Merriman) Dallas. She was the Valedictorian of the 1953 class of Helmsburg High School. Veda was a loving wife, mother, homemaker and grandmother. She was a devoted & lifelong member of Unity Baptist Church in Brown County where she was the Church Pianist for over 62 years and a former Church Clerk and Sunday School Teacher. She was a member and former Secretary of the American Baptist Women's Ministries and held the same position for the Indiana American State Baptist Church Association. Veda was also a member of XI Chapter of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority. Veda enjoyed playing cards, crafting and working crossword puzzles. Her family will miss her homemade meals prepared every Sunday for family gatherings.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Thelma Kanis, Doris Dallas, Beatrice Vaught, Marguerite Strickling, James Dallas and Beulah Walker.
Veda married her high school sweetheart, Ralph "Max" Schrougham on September 6, 1958 in Morgantown. He survives after 65 loving years of marriage. She is also survived by her children, Julie (husband, Don) Marcum of Seymour and Bruce (wife, Donna) Schrougham of Trafalgar; grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) Spall of Lafayette, James (Sarah) Marcum of Seymour, Shane (Harlee) Schrougham of Franklin, Kyler Schrougham of Chicago, IL and Jaden Schrougham of Trafalgar; seven great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
Veda's family would like to thank all the special caregivers and friends that helped care for her this past year and half.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Pastor John Parsley will conduct a funeral service on Wednesday, May 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery in Brown County.
