Mesquite, Texas, at the age of 91. Her life was a blessing, and her warmth,
kindness, and presence touched the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of
knowing her. She will be lovingly remembered and cherished by all whose lives she
enriched.
She was born on June 29, 1934, in Grapeland, Texas. She spent her childhood happily
alongside her baby sister and best friend, Jessie. Their close bond was a source of joy
throughout Vella's early years. After graduating from Grapeland High School, Vella
attended Henderson County College and in 1954, she met and married Len Clark.
They moved to Dallas where Vella became a mother to one boy, Mitch, and dedicated
herself to her family and worked side by side with her husband as they built and
managed their own business.
Vella was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Willie Lively, her beloved
husband, Len Edward Clark, her son, Mitchell Clark, and her younger sister, Jessie
LaRue Elmore. She is survived by her grandson, Bobby Len Clark, as well as the
descendants of her late sister.
Throughout her later years, Vella was surrounded by the unwavering love and support
of those closest to her. She shared a deep and meaningful bond with her longtime
friend, Deborah Stafford, whose dedication and friendship brought comfort and joy to
Vella's life. Their connection was a source of strength and companionship, enriching
Vella's days in immeasurable ways.
Vella was also blessed with a team of devoted caregivers who worked tirelessly to
ensure her happiness, wellbeing, and quality of life. She held a special place in her
heart for Ruby Brooks, Patricia Brunston, Jocelyn Lockett, Loretta Shedd, Janiece
Barnes, and many others over the years who stepped in to provide care when needed.
Their commitment and kindness meant the world to Vella, and she would wish to
acknowledge the importance of each of them in her life.
Vella lived a life devoted to her family, friends, and faith. She was known for her
generous heart and unwavering strength, facing challenges with remarkable resilience.
Her sweet and gentle spirit brought joy to those around her, and she welcomed
everyone she encountered with open arms and unconditional acceptance. Vella had a
unique ability to make everyone feel at home, never meeting a stranger and always
opening her heart and door to all. Her kindness and warmth filled the hearts of everyone
who had the privilege of knowing her.
Vella will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were
fortunate enough to have been touched by this gentle soul. Her memory will be forever
cherished, as she leaves behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, sweet smiles and
treasured moments. Those who had the privilege of sharing in her journey will carry
forward the lessons of compassion and acceptance she so generously offered, ensuring
that her gentle influence endures.
Vella was a very private person and requested that there be no service held for her. In
honor of her request of no formal service, there will be a short gathering at Laurel Oak
Funeral Home in Mesquite on Thursday, November 13 th from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. This
will be followed at 2:30 PM with graveside visit and tribute in the Laurel Oaks Memorial
