Velma Sue Cartwright, passed away Friday, June 13, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Buster and Marchie Waters and was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry E. Cartwright and his son Chris Cartwright; daughter, Darlene Cross; son, Terry Baxter; sister Betty Jo Baxter; brother, Danny Waters; and her constant companion for 17 years, Rambo.
Sue, aka Toot, aka Gozzie is survived by her grandsons, Zach (Jessica) Cross, Patrick (Adrian Gregorio) Cross, TJ (Peyton) Baxter; granddaughters, Terra (Josh) Allison and Brandi (Terry) Burns; great grandchildren, Eli, Asher, and Sophia Cross, Tinsley Allison, Skylar Price, and Waylen Wilson, Britton and Bradshaw Baxter; son in law, Lynn Cross; brother, Buddy (Mary) Waters, sister, Joan (Bob) Ferris; nieces, Tammy (Frank) Ungos, Gail (Dan) Harrison; nephews, Shane (Danielle) Ware, and Brian (Cristi) Waters. She is also survived by her lifelong friends, Marian Curbow McKinney, Charlie Mae Scoggins, Pat Buckner, Ramona Woody, and Carol Coppock and many other dear friends.
She retired from Magic Chef/Maytag after 38 years. Sue was a member of Boanerges Baptist Church and attended as long as her health allowed. She loved to hear the Boanerges Trio sing. Sue was a resident of Charter Senior Living of Cleveland for the past 14 months where she lived her best life. She was considered everyone’s favorite! She was lovingly called Doll Face, Sassy Britches, and Buttercup by the staff. She was crowned Valentine Queen 2025. She was a very loving and generous Mother and Grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Sue was the life of the party at Charter Senior Living of Cleveland with her quick wit and funny jokes. Her favorite pastimes were eating, shopping, and returning everything she bought the day before, even a Lexus. She had a beautiful flower garden and she and her husband grew many vegetables.
Sue’s family expresses their sincere gratitude to all of the staff at Charter of Cleveland for their care and love to Sue and her family. A special thank you to Janie Wingo, Gina Dodd, and Graicyn Timmons.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, June17, 2025 in the chapel of Poole Funeral Home with Rev. Rocky Green officiating. Interment will follow in Dill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 Tuesday at Poole Funeral Home.
