Velma H. Johnson, 80, of Smithfield, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025. She was born on October 27, 1945, and lived a life marked by devotion to family, generosity, and grace.
Affectionately known as Granna, Velma was the matriarch and heart of her family. She was well known for opening her home to others and bringing people together through fellowship, tradition, and lovingly prepared meals. Her Sunday dinners and family gatherings were a cornerstone of family life, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.Velma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Alongside her late husband, Willie I. Johnson, she helped build a home rooted in love, hospitality, and togetherness.
Velma was preceded in death by her siblings, including six brothers: Issac Jr., Nathaniel, Thomas, Charles, McCoy, and George; and five sisters: Catherine, Emma, Miriam and Annette.She is survived by her children, Angela Johnson and Willie I. Johnson, Jr. She was preceded in death by two children, Deborah A. Johnson and Evangela Johnson. Velma is also survived by her sister, Miriam Walker, a long list of a loving extended family.
Velma will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, her dedication to family, and the warmth she extended to everyone she encountered. Her legacy of love and togetherness will continue to live on through those who were blessed to know her.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
