Lafayette: Velma Charles Lambert affectionately known as "MOM" was born on September 26, 1928, in Arnaudville, LA. She was the baby of the Charles children born to the late Louis and Felosa Charles.
Mom was a hard worker and any task or job given, she accomplished. She worked very hard whether it was peeling crawfish at Bayou Land, working in the field, or cutting her own grass. She taught others especially her kids and grandkids how to work so they could grow up and go make something of themselves. She was very outspoken and didn't mind telling you like it was or letting you know if you gained a little weight or not. If you were having problems with your kids, she would tell you to leave them with her for a week and she would get them right.
Mom loved going to the Casino, playing cards, and going to Bingo. If you had the privilege of taking her to the Casino, you knew not to sit next to her at the machine and don't ask her how much she won either because she would say that she just caught her money back.
At any family function, the minute after everyone ate, Mom was caught clearing the table, getting the cards out to play Pitty Pat. Every year she loved to celebrate her birthday and to have a party. She was so happy that we celebrated her 95th birthday in style and with everyone present.
Mom is survived by her children; Margaret Benjamin, Dianne Lambert, Lorraine Semere (Robert), Jimmy Lambert (Keisha) and David Lambert (Gerry); her grandkids that she raised, Stephanie Green (Otis) and Sandy Alexander (Byron); 24 grandkids; numerous great-grandkids, great-great-grandkids, nieces, nephews, and close family.
Mom is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Felosa Charles; her husband, Joseph Lambert; her children,Edward Lambert, Malcolm Lambert, Michael Lambert, Judy Lambert, and Russell Lambert; her siblings, Eva Journet, Mildred Boudreaux, Della Davis, Leo Charles, Horace Charles, Morris Charles, Zervian Charles and Freda Lewis; her grandson, Orlando Wiltz; her great-grandchild Chelsa Solomon; and her daughter in law, Celestine Lambert.
