Velma (Bobbie) Whitley, age 92 of Hidden Valley Lake, California, went to be with the Lord on September 8th, 2025. She was born on September 18th, 1932 in Cameron, MO where she resided until age 13. At that time her family moved to Oakland, CA where her mother was employed at the shipyard in support of WWII.
Velma worked for Western Union for 34 years until the company moved to Sparks, NV. She then continued to work multiple jobs until she retired and moved to Hidden Valley Lake. She was known to have a very strong work ethic and kept a beautiful home.
In 1951 at the age of 18, she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Whitley. They settled in the Bay Area in California where they raised 5 children. Mark Whitley, Cynthia Boesz (Vince), Lisa Hale (Bobby), Nanette Doyle (Richard), and Theresa Whitley (Chris). Velma had 10 grandchildren, 3 bonus grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Velma loved her community and was an active member until the day she left us. She was a 46-year member of Eastern Star, a member of Middletown Lioness/Lions Club as well as a past member of The Park City Club of Clearlake. Additionally, she volunteered at the Clearlake ELKS and the Middletown Senior Center for many years.
She was preceded in death by her Husband Robert Whitley, Son Mark Whitley, Father Raymond Cox, Mother Nita Kessler, Son-in-law Richard Doyle, Brother Floyd Cox, Sisters Emma (Rusty) Allen, Florence (Rea) Bigelow, Father-in-law Jesse B Whitley, Mother-in-law Hilda Whitley, and other extended family members.
Velma is survived by her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
A mass will be held at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Middletown, CA on Friday, October 24th at 11:00 am, followed by a graveside service at Middletown Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at the Middletown Lions Club following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Velma's name to the Middletown Senior Center.
