D. Vera Dobson, age 91, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 22, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis Denver Dobson and Mary Lee White Dobson; grandson, Derek Doyle Dobson; brothers, Vernon Dobson (Laverne) and Kenneth Dobson (Ira); brother-in-law, Calvin Edwards; husband Broughton Chastain.
Vera was born in Dalton and was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and sang in the choir. One of her favorite things was singing, even up until the day of passing, she knew all the words to the hymns she sang with Chaplain David on a weekly basis. She loved to read, paint, sing, play on the piano, grow fruit whether a tree or a vine and flowers, loved animals and interior design. She also loved shoes but preferred to go barefoot. She retired from Dalton Public Schools where she worked for many years.
Vera is remembered by others for her kindness, strength, caring, liked to laugh, humility and how sweet she was and always a friend. They knew her family was very important to her. One of her life verses was 1 Peter 4:8 above everything, love deeply because love covers all. She tried to live as in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, 13, because love never fails. Forgiving is easy because Jesus first forgave us without forgiveness we can not love. Do not judge because we can not forgive if we are judging and not showing mercy and we can not truly love. (Mark 11:25, Luke 6:37 and Romans 12:18-19) No matter how hard life can be, God did not promise an easy life, but He did promise that he would go before us, be beside us and go with us, He did promise that He would never leave us nor forsake us. This was her strength. She always lived on His promises because she knew without a doubt that they are truth, you just need to live by faith (trusting in Him) and you will see they are true. His word never fails.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Doyle and Lisa Dobson of Rocky Face; sister, Vivian Edwards of Cumming; grandchildren, Laura Barbini (Silvio) of Canton, Ashley Phillips (Chuck) of Dalton; grand-daughter-in-law, Sara Dobson; great-grandchildren, Emma Barbini, Tripp Phillips, Deacon Dobson, Jayda Dobson, and Weston Dobson, nephew, John and Tanya Edwards and a host of other nieces and nephews also survive.
We thank Kayla Cochran and Jennifer Cavenaugh for caring greatly for her and for Chaplain David for always singing with her and sharing stories together.
