Vera Holwerda Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Homes - Willmar on Jul. 12, 2024.
Vera Holwerda, 97, of Willmar, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024, at Bethesda Grand with her family by her side. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 3rd at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Vera was born March 4, 1927, to Ralph and Hulda Mead of Priam, Minnesota. They later moved to a farm near Hawick, where Vera grew up with many siblings and attended country school.
Vera met the love of her life, Reindert, at a dance and they were married June 10, 1947. Four children were born to their marriage. Vera was a loving wife and mother; always willing to help others before herself. She was a homemaker, making homemade quilts, embroider dresser scarves and pillow cases, and sequined calendars, and gifted them down to her children. She decorated her home for every holiday and this legacy still continues with her children. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends and having them over for meals. Vera was proud of her home.
She enjoyed playing Whist, Rook, Monopoly and Rummy. Vera went on many family trips to Erskine, Pine River, Des Moines, IA, and Mitchell, South Dakota, to visit and family and friends. Vera and Reiny took many road trips anywhere the trip would lead them; often showing up at one of the kids' homes to spend time with them.
Vera is survived by her children: Beverly (Wayne) Johnson of Willmar, Gary Holwerda of St. Cloud, and Barbara Baldwin of Alexandria; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Estella Masters of Cottonwood and Hattie (Herb) Neu of Litchfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reiny; infant son, Luverne; her parents; six sisters; and four brothers.
Vera will be remembered for her smile and laughter. She will be sadly missed.
