James Holwerda, known to all as Jim, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 18, 2024, at the ripe age of 74. Jim was the sort of man who never met a flower he didn't like, or rather, didn't like to plant. A dedicated gardener, he was particularly fond of the ones that grew around his house. His garden was more than just a hobby, it was his kingdom, and every bloom a testament to his talent.
Jim was loyal not just to his plants but to his loved ones. An ardent supporter of his grandkids' extracurricular activities, he could be found in the stands of pool decks, cheer competitions, tennis matches, cross country meets and piano recitals.
Jim's passion was not limited to his loved ones, but also his career. He was able to pursue his passion for flowers as the co-owner of a greenhouse for 30 years with his brothers. Later in life, he ardently supported the community as a food service driver for Caledonia Community Schools.
Jim leaves behind a garden of memories, tended by his loving wife, Denise, and their five children: Jeremy, Brian and Angie, Amber and Randy, Justin and Lindsay, and Jamie and Lance. His legacy continues to bloom in his grandchildren: Ethan, Paige, Isaiah, Hudson, Kylee, Brynn, and Harper. His siblings Cindy and George, Jack and Jennifer, and Dan and Carol; as well as his father-in-law Dale and Carol remember him fondly too. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys, and his mother-in-law, MaryLou.
In Jim's honor, we encourage you to share your favorite stories, memories, and pictures of him on his memorial page. Family will be greeting guests at 10:00am on Saturday, December 28 followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00am. Both the visitation and service will be held at Ideal Park CRC (320 56th St. SW, Grand Rapids, MI, 49548).
