Mrs. Vera Knox "Kay" Murphy, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at the home of her youngest son, Patrick. Patrick and his wife, Mary, along with others, lovingly cared for her following a short battle with cancer.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Sunday at 3 PM in Pinewood Memorial Park in Greenville. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 to 8 PM at the home of Charles and Cindy Murphy, 4906 Country Club Drive in Wilson.
A native of Pitt County, Kay was born on April 5, 1945 to the late George and Blanche Gray Knox. She was a graduate of Stokes High School and prior to her working as a Nursing Home Administrator for a number of years, she was a homemaker who greatly enjoyed caring for and raising her family. Kay was a longtime resident of Pitt County prior to moving to Wilson in 2016 to be closer to family. Since moving to Wilson, she became a member of Bible Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was active in weekly bible study.
Kay will be fondly remembered by her family as a strong woman of faith who spent time reading and studying the Bible and did enjoy watching her Westerns.
In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles N. Murphy, Sr. and a son, James A. Murphy.
She is survived by:
Sons, Charles N. Murphy, Jr. and wife, Cindy,
