Vera Kathryne "Kathy" Smith, lovingly known as "Grammy," age 71, of West City, Illinois, passed away in the Linda E. White Hospice house in Evansville, Indiana on October 1, 2025 surrounded by family.
She was born on August 7, 1954, in Libertyville, Illinois, the daughter of Daisy Pence and Walter Saddler.
Kathy was a devoted member of the First Apostolic Church of Harrisburg, Illinois.
Kathy was first married to Robert Lenard for 21 years with whom they shared five children: Kathryne "Rainey" Gunter and husband David of Harrisburg, Illinois; Bobbie Gunter of West Frankfort, Illinois; Michael Lenard of Christopher, Illinois; Robert "Lance" Lenard of West City, Illinois; and Chelsea Wininger and husband Joshua of Vincennes, Indiana. She later remarried in 1994 to Floyd Smith, who she shared the rest of her life with until his passing in April of 2021.
She is survived by her five siblings and two half siblings: Bill Saddler of Freeman Spur, Illinois; Lorraine Roth, wife of the late Hank Roth, of Freeman Spur, Illinois; Michael Saddler and wife Joyce of Thompsonville, Illinois; Tim Saddler of Parrish, Illinois; David Saddler of West Frankfort, Illinois; Sam Saddler and wife Kathy of Grantfork, Illinois; and Ted Garner and wife Jess Hoffman of Springfield, Massachusetts. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.
Kathy's greatest joy was her family. She is the proud Grammy of 21 "grand-babies" and 15 "great-grand-babies," all of whom were the light of her life.
She will be remembered not only for her love of family but also for her strength, her courage, and the authentic way she held herself.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Daisy and Walter; husband, Floyd; and her grandson, baby David Jr.
Kathy was, and always will be, a force of love.
A Celebration of Life will be announced by the family at a later date.
