Verlene Wingate, 72, of Pennington, NJ, entered into her eternal rest with the Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at home. Verlene was born on September 12, 1952 in Wadesboro, NC to parents Walter and Lucille Bennett.
Verlene was employed for over 30 years at the Trenton Psychiatric Hospital where she worked directly with the patients.
Verlene was a member of the Emmanuel Deliverance Church in Ewing.
She loved trips to the casino, cooking for her beloved husband, and playing tennis in her younger years.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
Daughter of the late Walter Jasper and Lucille (Forte) Bennett; sister of the late Annette Bennett, Marion Bennett, Maepal Bethea, Curtis Bennett, Shiler Bennett, Lee Forte, and Ethea Poole.
Verlene is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Frederick Douglas Wingate, Jr.; her son Andre L. Bennett, Sr. and wife Tasha; six grandchildren, Andre Jr., Dominique, Simone, Khloe, Jamilya, and Elijah; a sister, Shirell Bullock, and a brother, Vinson Bennett; two sisters-in-law, Michelle Malden and Lydia Peterson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, March 28, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Parkside Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 1584 Parkside Ave., Ewing, NJ 08638. Christian funeral services will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Kaite officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, 1800 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton, NJ.
