Funeral services for Vern Smith, age 89, of Enid, will be 2:00 pm, Monday, May 5, 2025 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Vernon Lee officiating with burial following in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
Vern was born May 15, 1935, in Chester, OK to James and Opal (Edsle) Smith, and passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025 in Enid.
Vern graduated from Seiling High School in 1953, and shortly after, he was drafted in the US Army, where he served active duty for two years. He served on the missile battalion in Alaska from 1958 to 1960. He was in the Army National Guard from 1977 to 1984. He married the love of his life Beth Colton on December 9, 1961 in Stanton, California. He worked at the United States Post office in California from 1968 to 1970, until they moved to Enid, where he worked until he retired in 2005.
Vern is survived by three sons, Wayland Smith of Edmond, Ok; Marc Smith of Broken Arrow, OK; and Jason Smith, of Enid, OK; niece, Chelsea Morgan and husband Dylan, of Oklahoma City, OK; Dora DiGiacinto and husband Justin, of Piedmont, OK; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister Ruth Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Beth Smith; siblings, Leland Smith, Pearl Cunningham, Raymond Smith, and Lovell Smith.
