Verna K. "Squeak" Tetz, age 96 of Delaware and formerly of Elmira, New York, peacefully passed away, Monday, September 29, 2025.
She was born on July 22, 1929, in Elmira, New York to the late Charles E. and Jane H. (DePledge) Whitmore Dawley. Verna was a 1949 graduate of Elmira Southside High School and attended Vermont Junior College.
She met the love of her life, John A. Tetz, at their senior high school prom and were later married in Elmira on October 25, 1952. Together, they were partners in life's journey for almost 73 years, through thick and thin. Her life centered on caring for and supporting the needs of her family.
Verna enjoyed ice cream, music, singing in choirs, traveling and, most importantly, being with family. Being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren put a smile on her face. Her faith was very important to her. She was a member at Liberty Presbyterian Church and enjoyed being involved in her church activities over the years. She will be remembered as a kind and loving wife, mom, grandma, and friend. Verna also treasured her lamb and Frog collection. She would tell you to Forever Rely on God.
Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband, John, her daughter, Donna (Edward) Kavo of Upper St. Clair, PA, her son, Dr. James Tetz of Yellow Springs, OH, and grandchildren: Kristin (Jade), Bradley (Natalie), Zachary (Michelle); great-grandchildren: Isabella, David, Charlotte, and Beckett.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David J. Tetz, D.O., in 1998, grandson, Jared Tetz, in 2019, step-father, William Dawley, brother, C. Brainard Whitmore, and sisters, Dorothy Janes and Beatrice Smith.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 11th at First Presbyterian Church, Delaware at 4:00 pm. Visitation will be prior to the service from 3:30-4:00 pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Snyder Funeral Center in Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Delaware County District Library, c/o Children's Department, 84 East Winter St., Delaware, OH 43015.
