Vernetha Fulmer Renwick, age 96, of Newberry, wife of the late Robert Marcellus Renwick, went to her heavenly home surrounded by her loving family on November 23, 2025 at Newberry Health.
She was born on May 1, 1929 in Saluda County, SC. She was a daughter of the late William Jennings and Grace Bedenbaugh Fulmer. Vernetha and Robert made Newberry their home following their marriage in 1951. During their marriage, they shared an amazing love and devotion for one another which expanded to their four dear children and to their families. Their adoration for each other was gift from God. When they united in marriage, they became one, creating a beautiful life together.
In 1953, Vernetha joined the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and was a dedicated member until her death. She served on various committees, taught Sunday School classes, was a choir member, and an active member of the Women's Ministries and Circle I. She was honored with a life membership in Women's Ministries. She dearly loved her church family and friends. Vernetha lived her entire life possessing a strong faith and trusting in the Lord.
When her children became kindergarten age, Vernetha worked several part time positions over the years including as a legal secretary to an attorney, a medical secretary in transcription, and finally in the Medical Records Department at Newberry Memorial Hospital.
Vernetha was a graduate of Newberry College, a special place which forever was dear to her heart. Beginning in 1977, she worked various roles for the college including the library, the Financial Aid office, and finally Secretary to the Faculty. She retired in 1995. While there, Vernetha was an active member in the Newberry College Women's Club and a member of the Heritage Roll of Honor.
Vernetha found true joy and fulfillment in caring for her family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a natural homemaker and was always ready and happy to welcome guests. She enjoyed using talents in cooking, interior design, landscape and gardening, letter writing, and photography. Her appreciation for history was evident in her impressive curation and collection of photo albums and photo displays in her home. She was always enjoying life in the present and looking forward to the future. She loved any reason to celebrate life events, big or small-birthdays were her favorite! She was always reaching out to others in thoughtful ways. She lived by the words from Galatians 6:9: "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Mrs. Renwick is survived by her children Lt. Col, U.S.A.F Ret. William Renwick (Terry) of Six Mile, Hugh Renwick (Ashley) of Fort Mill, and Martha McGuffee of Taylors; daughter-in-law, Susan Renwick of Spartanburg; Grandchildren Leslie Chapman (Harley), Robert Renwick (Kirkley), Brian McGuffee (Jennifer), Nicole Renwick (Perry), Luke Renwick, Adam Renwick, Jack Renwick, and Anna Grace Renwick; Great-grandchildren, Miles Renwick, Walt Renwick, Caroline Chapman, Catherine Chapman, Colton McGuffee, and Ellie Grace McGuffee.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by son, David Renwick; son-in-law, Mark McGuffee; brother, Gerald Fulmer; and sister, Maytrude Katz.
Services will be held 3:00 P.M. Friday, November 28, 2025, at Newberry Reformed Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Seth Yi.
Visitation will be prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 P.M.
Memorial donations may be made to Newberry Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1701 Main Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or Newberry College, 2100 College Street, Newberry, SC, 29108.
