Vernie Harold Gardner, age 92, was tenderly called into the forever presence of the Lord on Tuesday October 28, 2025, from his home in Bedford, Texas. He was born on July 5, 1933, in Dallas Texas to Elmer Eugene and Birdie Lee Gardner.
Vernie worked at various companies producing and distributing goods and services beginning at an early age on his family farm as a dairyman followed by service in the US Army, boot manufacturing, freight distribution, a painting business, and petroleum transport until retiring in 1995. Vernie was a longtime member of the Arlington Community Church participating in the choir and directing choral music at times as well as assisting in the maintenance of the church building and grounds.
Vernie was completely dedicated to the love and service of the Lord, his family and others. His life beautifully exemplified the verse in Colossians 3:23-24, where it says "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." Vernie’s most loved hobby was working in his garage wood shop making things with his hands for the people he loved.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Rosemary Gardner; loving daughter, Joy Lynette Gardner of Bedford; son, Timothy Gardner and wife, Sandy of San Antonio; grandchildren, Katie Salahub and husband, Brandon of Waxahachie, Texas, Nathan Gardner of Longview, Texas, and Mildred Gardner of Austin, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Kora and Levi Salahub. Vernie was preceded in death by his sister, Charlene Pendergrass, and brothers, John, Wayne, Alvin and Rodney.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday November 4, 2025, at Wade Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, Texas 76013. Interment will take place at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211, at 1:15 p.m. Thursday November 13, 2025.
