Vernon James Ferguson, Jr., 73, of Coatesville, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Leslie F. Rice Ferguson, with whom he shared 17 years of marriage.

Born in Downingtown, he was the son of the late Vernon James Ferguson, Sr. and Florence E. Christman Ferguson.

Vernon was a proud graduate of Downingtown High School, class of 1971.

Throughout his life, Vernon was an active member of his community, with a particular passion for the outdoors that was reflected in his involvement with various organizations. He was a dedicated member of the West Caln Sportsman's Club, the Red Rose Pistol Team, a lifetime member of the NRA, the National Wildlife Turkey Federation, and the Cornog Trout Club. His commitment to these groups was not just about participation; it was about fostering a sense of camaraderie and conservation.

Vernon's interests were not just hobbies; they were the essence of who he was. An accomplished hunter, he achieved a lifelong dream by taking a majestic 12-point buck in January 2025, adding to his impressive collection that included a large Elk from Colorado in 2005. His prowess as a fisherman was unmatched, as evidenced by the 600lb tuna he caught in the Outer Banks in March of 2024. Vernon's skill as a pistol shooter was renowned, earning him the title of PA State Champion in 1996 and again in 2004.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Vernon James Ferguson, III (Jennifer Brokos); his daughter, Lori R. Poole (William D., Jr.); and his sister, Dinah R. Pantoja (Pablo). He is also survived by his grandchildren, William D. Poole, III. and RaShae Poole and by a host of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Victor Michael Ferguson in 2020 and by his brother, Kenneth M. Ferguson in 2008.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 16, 2025 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown. Family and friends will be received from 9:15-10:45 a.m.

Vernon's favorite color was burgundy. Please honor him by wearing burgundy to his memorial service.

Interment will be private with the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hunt of a Lifetime Foundation.
