Vernon Mendes

Vernon Mendes, a devoted husband, loving father, treasured grandfather, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on June 25, 1942, in Tulare, California, Vernon lived a life defined by faith and dedication.

Vernon spent 37 years as an engineer with IBM in the Bay Area, where he was respected for his work ethic, and integrity. Outside of his career, he was a proud member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and earned the distinguished title of Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, a role he carried with honor.

A man of many passions, Vernon found joy in the skies as a licensed pilot who loved flying his own airplane. He was also a lifelong and loyal San Francisco 49ers fan, holding season tickets for many years and cheering on his team since his teenage years. He cherished the peaceful moments tending to his beloved koi pond, enjoyed playing poker, and loved traveling, especially taking cruises and sightseeing adventures with his wife, Maria.

Vernon stayed active throughout his life, serving as an umpire for the softball leagues at the Del Webb community, where he was known for his energy, always being on the go. Whether driving his Corvette, sharing stories, or simply enjoying good company, Vernon had a way of making every moment full of life.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife, Maria, his daughters Michelle Mendes and Cindy Dzierman, and his stepchildren Diane Cole, Donny Albin, and Michael Albin. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Samantha Valencia, Victoria Mendes, Dylan Dzierman, step-grandchildren Melissa Somers, Justin Cole, Adrianna Albin, Ryan Albin, and Andrew Albin, and his step- great-granddaughter Sophia Somers. He is also survived by his siblings Kathleen Gomes, Genevieve Brown, and Gerald Mends. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter Madeleine Monterio.

Vernon's memory will be forever treasured by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
