"The joy of the Lord is my strength." - Nehemiah 8:10
Mrs. Veronica Irene Lowery, affectionately known as "SweetPea," found eternal peace on January 30, 2025, embraced by the love and light she so freely shared in her lifetime. Born on March 27, 1958, in Iredell County, NC, to Willis Alexander and the late Vivian Davis, Veronica's journey was one of faith, love, and dedication.
A proud graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, Veronica's passion for helping others blossomed early as she earned her CNA license while still in high school. Her commitment to understanding and supporting others led her to obtain a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in Addiction Counseling from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. As a counselor at SIMS Counseling Services, Veronica touched countless lives with her wisdom and empathy, always eager to extend a helping hand to those in need.
Veronica's faith was her guiding light, and she found great joy in her affiliation with Accelerated Ministries Church of God of Prophecy, where she served faithfully on the usher board. Her love for gospel music resonated deeply within her soul, providing a soothing melody throughout her life's journey.
Her world shone brightest when beside her beloved husband, George L. Lowery Jr. ("Ricky"), with whom she shared a deep and abiding love. Whether assisting him in his DJ endeavors or casting lines together on peaceful fishing trips, their bond was a melody of joy and companionship. Her precious dog, Jack, was her constant companion, pampered with the same tenderness she extended to her cherished flowers-both thriving under her nurturing care.
SweetPea's favorite color, yellow, reflected her sunny disposition and the light she brought into every room. Veronica's heart was woven into the fabric of her community through various projects alongside classmates, making a lasting impact that will be felt for generations.
She was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Ricky, her mother, and siblings Willis Alexander Jr., Savan, and Timmie Cowan.
Her legacy of love and faith lives on through her children, Tekeshia Jetton (Carlos) of Statesville and Walter Lowery (Lakeesha) of Charlotte; her devoted siblings, Elder Roxieane Davis Leonard (Walter) of Mooresville, Ree Davis of Charlotte, Anita Richardson (Maurice) of Kannapolis, Cynthia Lewis of Chicago, Sheena Brown (Kevin) of Charlotte, Tony Davis of Charlotte, Pastor Timmie Alexander (Veronica) of Charlotte, Ron Davis of Charlotte, Richard Lowery of Charlotte, Bronte Alexander of Kannapolis, Demond Parks (Angela) of Kannapolis, Calvin Alexander of Mooresville, Tyrone White of Mooresville, and Pam Labord (Ron) of Concord; and a sister-in law, Debra Cowan. Her joy also lives on in her six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, cherished great-aunt Odessa Cunningham, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
As we gather to celebrate the life of Mrs. Veronica "SweetPea" Lowery, let us carry forward the warmth of her smile, the strength of her faith, and the depth of her love. Her memory will forever be a sunbeam in our hearts, illuminating the path of grace and compassion she walked daily.
