Veronica Denise Mayo, age 59, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on February 19, 1965, to the late Tommie T. Howard, Sr. and Eleanor Mayo.
Veronica gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She was employed at Health South for 20 years before transitioning to General Electric (now WABTEC) for 15 years, prior to retiring. She showed love and compassion to her family and friends. Veronica “Nana” adored her grandchildren and would devote time to spend with them; whether it be in Huntsville, Alabama or Erie, Pennsylvania. She was a die heart Pittsburgh Steelers fan, as well as a therapy shopper. Veronica also enjoyed spending her leisure time traveling and trips to the Salamanca Casino.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Robert and Inez Mayo; paternal grandparents, Drewey Roy and Jannie Howard; Aunts, Claudette McAdory and Annie (Thomas) Myers; Uncles Drewey Lee Howard and Wallace Sony Howard; Godparents, James “Bro” and Loveina “Sas” Tate.
Veronica leaves to cherish her life and memories, her daughter, LaShana Henderson of Huntsville, Alabama and son, Jahmad Gore of Erie, Pennsylvania. She was the best Nana to five grandchildren, Martrell Glover, Jr, Merlayah Page, Naomi Page, Marcelina Gore and Zamario Gore. She was the oldest sibling of five sisters, Tisa (Wilbert) Sparks, Tonya Tolbert, Tara Tolbert and Copa Ann Howard all of Erie, Pennsylvania and four brothers, Tyrone Tolbert, Tommie T. (Theresa) Howard, Jr, Tjshawn (Tamikia)Thomas and Latrell Carr all of Erie, Pennsylvania. She was the niece of two aunts, Betty Ellis of Erie, Pennsylvania and Delores (Clearance) Dixon of Buffalo, New York. She held close to her a special cousin, Gregory (Mary) Myers. She cherished her loving companion of the past 8 years, Brian Cooper. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her godmother, Janice Ponder, her Tate family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A public viewing will be held at Second Baptist Church 757 East 26th Street, Erie, PA 16504 on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. until the time of her Celebration of Life service at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Darrell Cook of Second Baptist Church, Officiating and Pastor Curtis Henderson of One in Christ International, Eulogizing. Celebration of Life service will also be live-streamed by Second Baptist Church via Facebook. Interment will be held in Erie Cemetery.
