Veronica M. Russo Steines, 87, of New Castle passed away the morning of June 20, 2024 at the Haven Convalescent Home.
Born in New Castle on September 28, 1936, Veronica was the daughter of the late William J. and Marie L. Tuscano Russo.
Veronica was a graduate of New Castle High School. She received her Bachelors Degree from Seton Hill College, her Master's Degree from Youngstown State University and completed her education at Kent State University earning her PhD.
In the early years Veronica taught fourth grade at St. Mary's Elementary School and was known for producing the school's operettas every year. She then went on to teach at Youngstown State University as a Professor of Early Childhood Education.
Veronica was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. She enjoyed gourmet cooking. Veronica loved to travel. She also enjoyed running and rollerblading. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her greatest joy was spending time with her family and hosting the Holidays for them.
Veronica is survived by her son, Dr. William Ross Steines and his wife Diana, her granddaughter, Ashley N Steines (Christopher Pagley) and three great-grandchildren, Christopher M. Pagley, Jr., Dominick Pagley and Briana Pagley.
In addition to her parents, Veronica was preceded in death by her former husband, Dr. Donald F. Steines.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vitus Church. Father Aaron Kriss will officiate.
Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
