Funeral Services: Will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle with burial in the Canby Cemetery north of Fontanelle with full military graveside rites by the Anita American Legion Post No. 210 and Army Funeral Honors. A luncheon will follow the burial back at the Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle. The Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle is in charge of the professional arrangements. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lambfuneralhomes.com.

Open Visitation: Will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Memorials: May be directed to the Veryl Ticknor Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date.

Veryl Charles Ticknor, Jr. was born on February 7, 1944, the son of Veryl Charles, Sr. and Helen Marie (Reynolds) Ticknor in Dexter, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 81.

Veryl was a livelong resident of Adair County and graduated from Adair-Casey High School in 1962. While in school, he was active in 4-H and football. On April 1st, 1967, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janice Kinman in Adair, Iowa. To this union two children were born: Joanne and Jerry. They lived in Adair for two years where he worked for Adair Feed and Grain and then began farming south of Adair for six years. In 1975, they moved to their farm near Canby where he continued farming. Veryl enjoyed raising cows, pigs, crop ground, and his blue heeler dogs.

Veryl enjoyed antique tractors, playing cribbage and cards with family and friends, and sightseeing. Veryl and Janice were “snowbirds” in Arizona for about thirteen years. Veryl also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many times, Veryl could be found in his recliner reading a book with a grandchild or a great grandchild sat next to him.

Veryl served in the Army National Guard, Farm Bureau Board, Sheriff Reserves, Farm Service Board, Adair County Fair Board, Masons, and the Highland United Methodist Church.

Veryl was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Hal and Genevieve Kinman; brothers and sister-in-law, Larry and Judy Kopaska, Richard “Dean” Shoesmith, Carl Jens, and Lynn Wedemeyer; and niece, Cathy Jens Sadler.

He is survived by his wife, Janice of rural Casey; daughter, Joanne (Matt) Tewes of Sutherland, Iowa; son, Jerry (Pam) Ticknor of Winterset, Iowa; Granddaughters, Natalie Ticknor and Sara Tewes (Chris); great grandchildren, Elayna, Liam, Shae, Jace, and Lexi; two sisters, Helen Shoesmith of Stuart, Iowa and Marilynn Wedemeyer of Owasso, Oklahoma; two brothers, Bob (Judy) Ticknor of Adel, Iowa and Richard (Kathy) Ticknor of Adel, Iowa; sister-in-law, Diana Jens of Seattle, Washington; as well as many relatives and friends.
