A funeral service for Vickie Heida, age 75, of Spencer, Iowa, will be held at 1:30 pm, Friday, July 26, 2024, at Rivers Edge Church in Spencer, Iowa. Visitation will be at noon until service time at the church. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD at 11 am, Monday, July 29, 2024.
Vickie Dawn Heida, daughter of Walter and Evangeline (Quigley) Haak, was born on July 6, 1949, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She passed away on July 23, 2024, at the Ruthven Community Care Center in Ruthven, Iowa at seventy-five years of age.
Vickie graduated from Parker High School at Parker, South Dakota and completed three years of college in Home Economics at South Dakota State University where she met the love of her life, Dalen Heida. On January 30, 1971, she married Dalen at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hartford, SD, sharing over fifty-three years of marriage.
Throughout her life, Vickie held various roles, including working as a clerk at Sernetts Department Store, as a cook at Headstart at Spencer Community Schools and as a clerk at Walmart for thirteen years. She dedicated herself to caring for her home and family, a role she cherished deeply.
Vickie was raised on a farm in rural Hartford, SD. She and Dalen lived in Montgomery, MN and also on an acreage west of Sioux Falls before settling in Spencer, Iowa in 1975. She was an active member of River's Edge Church in Spencer and was involved in community activities such as 4H and YMCA. Vickie was known for her talents in baking, flower arranging and photography, often winning awards at the Clay County Fair.
Vickie found joy in hobbies including cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, puzzles, traveling and word games. Her resilient spirit was evident as she faced and conquered numerous health challenges throughout her life including a misplaced vein as a baby, breast cancer, thyroid disease, hepatitis C and diabetes.
Vickie will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dalen Heida; children, Tammie (Dan) Johnson, Ryan (Audra) Heida and Cory Heida; grandchildren, Samuel Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Shaylyn Heida, Shane Heida, Deacon Heida and Dylan Heida; sister, Pamela Calhoun (Bob Anderson); and nieces, Sheila (Eric) Radel and Michelle Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walt and Eva Haak.
