Vicky Gail (Pancake) Lamar

Vicky Gail (Pancake) Lamar, 72, went home to be with Jesus on July 23, 2025, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on October 3, 1952, to Theodore and Judith (Johnson) Pancake. She was a disciplined student with a determination to excel which earned her the opportunity to represent her class as a delegate to Hoosier Girls’ State and later afforded her the honor of Valedictorian of her graduating class of 1970 from South Knox High School. She was a Candy Striper and a Red Cross volunteer in her younger years. Vicky pursued a nursing career at Vincennes University and received her A.S. in nursing in 1972. She began her nursing career at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes in the Surgery Department.

She married Loyace Lamar on July 7, 1973. He was the love of her life, and they combined their musical abilities to labor in church work—providing music for revival meetings, weddings, and funerals.

After giving birth to her first child, Vicky stayed home and dedicated her life to being the best wife and mother to her three children. She poured her energies into their lives as encourager, tutor, supporter, counselor, listener, and nurturer. After all her children were in school, she went back to work in Same-Day Surgery until she was approached about a position in the Pulmonary/Cardiology Clinic to be an office nurse for Dr. Philip Watson. She dedicated many hours to the care of her patients for more than thirty-five years. Vicky gave 150% to her work. Her loving heart shone in her commitment to the nursing profession.

The underlying theme of her life was hard work, diligence, excellence, and service with love. She dedicated her time and efforts to family, church, and friends. Her home was her palace—inside and out—clean, tastefully decorated, and wreathed in beautiful flower gardens. Family was at the top of her priority list. She loved to host her monthly family dinners. She loved her grandkids and spent many hours babysitting them. When her first great-grandchild was born, she stepped up to help babysit as much as she could—even after her health began to fail.

She was a member of the Petersburg Holiness Church where she was the organist for more than forty years. Church song service will never be the same without her talented touch. She taught Sunday school for several years. She was always the first to volunteer her time at church events. She always saw needs around her and reached out to help. Her shining Christian example at home, at work, and at church was an inspiration to many. She sacrificed so much for so many. There has never has been a more selfless or caring lady.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Judith Pancake/Bateman, stepfather Robert Bateman, and son-in-law, Edward Trella.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Loyace Lamar; three children: Valerie (Chad) Searls, Audrey (Greg) Hunt, and Jonathan (Eve) Lamar; seven grandchildren: Julene (Larry) Moore, David (Grace Willis) Trella, Josiah Searls, Nicholas Trella, Jace Searls, Corbin and Dean Lamar; one great-grandchild, Oakleigh Willis, and her brother, Steven (Anita) Pancake, and many nephews and nieces.

Services for Vicky will be as follows: viewing at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home in Vincennes, IN from 4-8 p.m. EST, Friday, August 1. Viewing Saturday morning from 9-10 a.m. EST at Petersburg Holiness Church in Petersburg, IN. Funeral at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Chad Searls officiating. Those who are unable to attend the service are invited to call in to listen at (617) 941-8131. Vicky will be laid to rest in Wheatland Cemetery following the service.
