ROCHESTER -Victor Capogna, age 98, peacefully entered eternal rest on September 23, 2024, at The Wegman Family Cottages in Rochester, NY. Born on April 29, 1926, to the late Henry and Adeline (Cari) Capogna, Victor lived a life marked by service, love, and dedication.
Victor attended Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady, NY. Like many of his generation, he left during his senior year to enlist in the United States Army during World War II. From 1944 to 1946, he served honorably in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaigns, where he earned certification as a rifle sharpshooter and a specialty as a light truck driver.
After returning from the war, Victor completed his high school education and began working for a series of local companies. He then started on the shop floor in the Gas Turbine department at GE, progressed to departmental supervisor and eventually retired after a long career of 25 years.
Victor was blessed to marry the love of his life, Gloria Altieri. Together, they built a loving home on Hawk Street in Scotia, NY, where they raised their three daughters and created a lifetime of cherished memories over more than 60 years. Later in life, they moved to the Rochester area to be closer to family. Victor and Gloria shared a passion for music, travel, and they spent many years exploring the country in their RV-from California to Florida and everywhere in between-visiting family and friends along the way. Victor was also an avid bowler and golfer (with 1 hole in one), loved tinkering with electronics and gained experience with computer hardware even building his own computer when personal computers became popular.
Victor will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, his strong work ethic, and the deep love he had for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of honor and devotion, and his memory will be forever cherished by all who knew him.
Victor was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gloria Altieri Capogna and his 5 brothers (Frank, Joseph, Raymond, Anthony and Armand).
Victor is survived by his loving daughters and their families; Marie (Carl) Partridge, Barbara (Jeff) Macko, and Janice (Jeff) Fridman; grandchildren Brittany (Beau) Partridge Bauer, Kyle (Kaitlyn Zerbe) Partridge, Glen Fridman, Ellen Fridman, Paul Fridman; great-grandchildren; Cullen Bauer, Camdyn Bauer, Knox Partridge, Kai Partridge; several in-laws and many nieces and nephews. He is now reunited in eternal peace with his beloved Gloria and those who have gone before him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 18 at 10:00 am with a service at 11:00 AM at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, Schenectady. Interment will take place at 1:00pm in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
