Though, we were blessed with many years of happiness, love and guidance he will be deeply missed. His spirit and laughter will remain forever in our hearts. His presence will be profoundly missed by us and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Victor was born in
Roswell, New Mexico December 23, 1952, the eldest son of Victor V. and Ramona D. Ortiz. Victor grew up nurtured in faith, deeply loved, in a home where curiosity and knowledge were celebrated.
Relocating early in life to Del Rio, Texas, Victor was able to enjoy a closeness with family making memories that he cherished and shared often. This love of family would extend throughout his lifetime.
His parents' backgrounds in public service, Military and Library Aide, helped shape the foundation of the lifelong educator he would become.
Graduating from San Felipe High School,1971, Victor would then attend San Angelo State University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Education. He earned his masters degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin University. Along with Teacher Educator Certifications in Administration, Supervision, Superintendent, and Bilingual/ ESL to name a few.
Victor would go on to serve 37 years in education as a teacher, principal, Vice-Principle, and administrator. He was very proud of his staff and students. Fostering meaningful lifelong connections with his colleagues from South San Independent School District that he cherished. Always answering with a smile when a peer would call with questions, or to catch up.
During his time at Harlandale I.S.D. Victor met his devoted future bride. Victor married Cecelia "Chila" Ann Ortiz, 42 years ago. From this tender and caring union came a happy home of four children. The Ortiz's cherished their family and children and loved to celebrate milestones and birthdays with family and friends. They fostered a love of music and sports in their children's lives, from Mariachi performances to Cross Country meets, Golf, Basketball, Volley ball, Softball and Dance.
Victor touched countless lives in his roles as teacher, assistant principal, principal, and community education coordinator before retiring in 2012.
In his retired life he prioritized family and faith, taking an active role in the Mission San Jose community as an Usher and Festival organizer. He loved to cook delicious meals with his Grandchildren and watch them enjoy his famous B-B-Q brisket and award-winning Chili recipe. He was a loving active Grandfather who enjoyed the outdoors and took pride in teaching his Son and Grandson field sports skills like archery, shooting, and hunting game large and small. Victor was a great storyteller who enjoyed most of all spending time with his young grandchildren. He adored watching them play and enjoy life while sharing silly jokes and teaching them new skills.
Victor was a loving spouse, proud father, and doting grandfather. Victor cherished all his extended family and friends. Especially, his nieces and nephews who always held a special place in his heart. He loved sharing stories and advice and making people laugh, but most of all he loved God and family.
