Victoria King Powell, 64, a beloved woman gave her final gift to her family and friends on February 12, 2012. Victoria was born in Hampton, Virgina in 1947 to the late William and Billie Marie Bentley King. She moved to Dutchess County in 1965 where she lived very happily in Poughkeepsie since 1990. She was a Public Historian and Archivist who worked with many historic and government agencies and non-profit organizations. Victoria's family are her two sons and their families. They are Christopher Powell who with his wife, Carolyn, and their sons, Eric and Kevin live in Wappingers Falls and Dr. David Powell and his wife, Kristina who live in Everett, Washington. Her sister Cecelia Duke and her family reside in Virginia. Victoria's friends and colleagues were many including the Cider Mill Friends. Her animal companions are her Scottie, Bonnie Blue Star, Cairns, Madaline and the cat Snickers. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger E. Peo, Ph.D. in 1994. Family will receive friends on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cider Mill Friends, PO Box 2873, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 or Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY 12538.
