Vincent J. Barker, age 90, longtime resident of Delran, NJ, passed peacefully on October 15, 2025, at St Mary's Nursing Center in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Vince was born on September 18, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Delia Barker (nee' Casserly) and Arthur Barker. His Mother immigrated from Ballintober, Ireland and his father from Bradford, England. Vince was raised in the Swamppoodle neighborhood in Philadelphia, where he attended Corpus Christi Grade School and Lasalle College High School, graduating in the class of 1953. He went on to attend Temple University on a Baseball scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing Management. After college, Vince enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, attending Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA and graduating as a Lieutenant, USMC.
Following his service in the USMC, Vince met Barbara Donegan, marrying on September 10, 1960, and sharing 63 years of marriage together. They lived in Hammonton and Northfield, NJ for a time before settling in Delran, NJ where they lived for 42 years and raised their two children, Denise and Vincent. Vince was active in Delran Community Athletics coaching his son Vincent and Daughter Denise with baseball, soccer and softball for many years. He was also a longtime member of the Knights Of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Riverside Turners Club and the Lafamiglia Lodge in Philadelphia.
Vince's professional career led him to work for US Gypsum Company and then for 25 years with Dow Chemical as a National Accounts Manager. Following his retirement from Dow Chemical, he continued to do consulting work for clients involved in the Building Trades and Business for several years. Vince would also go on the serve as a Substitute Teacher at local area schools.
Vince enjoyed boating and travelling with Barbara. He always cheered on the local Philadelphia sports teams, Phillies, Eagles, Flyers and Sixers, and was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame Football. Most of all, Vince enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Vince was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbar Barker (nee' Donegan) in 2023, and by his sister, Helen Ryan, and brother, Lionel Barker. Vince is survived by his loving children, Denise Farrell and her husband Paul, and Dr. Vincent B. Barker and his wife Colette. Also surviving are his dear grandchildren, Sean Farrell and his wife Sara, Ryan Farrell and his wife Liana, Conor Farrell and his wife Lauren, Sorcha Barker and Keela Barker, as well as his dear great-grandchildren, Jameson, Macklin, Ciera and Ryleigh Farrell.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass for Vince beginning promptly at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Resurrection Parish, St. Casimir Church site, 502 New Jersey Avenue, Riverside, NJ 08075. Private entombment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ.
