Vincent DeSanctis Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 10, 2025.
WWII War Veteran
Vincent Joseph DeSanctis passed away on April 8, 2025, at the age of 99 years. During the pandemic he found a peaceful retreat at his daughter's home in Malvern, PA where he quietly passed in his sleep surrounded by loved ones.
Born March 4, 1926, in Philadelphia to the late Vincent and Catherine DeSanctis, who instilled the foundation of Vince's love of family, faith and country. Prior to graduating high school, he enlisted in WWII United States Army Air Corps that served as the aerial warfare branch of the U.S. Army. He started in radio mechanic training which lead to working on the highly classified Norden bombsight. At the time, Norden was considered a critical wartime instrument, only a few good men received this special classification and training.
After the war, via the G.I. Bill, Vince enrolled and graduated from State Teachers College at West Chester (aka West Chester University). He graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. In his last two years attending, he was voted Class President. In addition to his love of football and boxing, Vince was known for his talents on the stage. He was apart of the theater club which launched his side hobby of singing in many Big Band ensembles and plays.
After a few teaching appointments, Vince decided teaching was not for him. He then started a successful career with Continental Bank. He rose from loan officer to branch manager to working in the corporate office. A career spanning 30+ years gave him a source of pride and accomplishment. Continental Bank through various mergers is now PNC Bank.
A man of deep faith, Vince and his wife Grace were longtime members of Sacred Heart Parish in Manoa where they raised and educated their 3 children.
Vince was also a member of Llanerch Country Club for over 60 years. He was an avid golfer. Both he and his wife enjoyed many events and made many lifelong friends. He was often seen walking the course at the ripe old age of 91.
Vince's love and dedication to his family was most evident at their home in Ocean City, NJ. At the shore house he showed off many of his "Poppy" superpowers. He quieted many crying infants, mixed up his famous pancakes, sparked uncontrollable giggles from toddlers and effortlessly grilled for many hungry sun-kissed faces.
Vince was predeceased by his wife Grace. He is survived by his children Denise Babcock (Thomas), Vincent N. DeSanctis (Margaret), Andrea Strang (Douglas); 10 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Relatives & Friends are invited to his Visitation on Monday April 14th from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM followed by his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM ALL IN CHURCH at St. Francis of Assisi Church 136 Saxer Ave. Springfield 19064. Int. SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
