Vincent J. Facenda
November 5, 1954- February 21, 2025
One of Gloucester's top sports personalities, Vince Facenda, has passed away. Vincent J. Facenda of Westville NJ passed away on February 21, 2025. Vince was born to Frank and Mary Facenda (Nee Kindick) in Camden NJ on November 5, 1954.
Vince was a lifelong resident in Westville, graduated from Gloucester Catholic in 1972 (he deeply loved Gloucester Catholic). There wasn't a person that graduated from GCHS, regardless of the year that he did not "adopt" as a lifelong friend. Vince had an encyclopedic memory of Rams, Lions, Phillies and Eagles sports lore. You could not stump Vince on a sports trivia question, no matter how obscure. Vince was a walking library of the entire rosters of Major League Baseball from the 1960's to the present. We have never met anybody like him (and that's exactly how we're supposed to live our life). Vince was a youth basketball referee, a fixture at South Jersey men's softball leagues, a master gardener and did tremendous impersonations. Vince was a shining personality that made everyone laugh and smile with his comments, antics and wit. We will certainly miss his talent for "doing the bacon".
The world would be surprised to learn that he had college degrees from Rowan University and Glassboro State College where he studied Government and Political Science. However, Vince chose a different route for his careers so he could work with his hands and be with his colleagues on the job front; a couple to mention are department of transportation (NJDOT) surveying and supervising installation of streets and roads; and his all-time favorite: Boilermaker at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Vince is a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Vince was a unique and remarkable man and has broken the mold. "Vince is survived by a multitude of friends." He will be deeply missed. Until we meet again, my friend. "May the wind be always at your back."
Celebration of Life for Vince will be on Monday March 3, 2025 10am-11am held at the Ellis Stiefel Funeral Home 301 Highland Ave. Westville NJ 08093 with his funeral service starting at 11am.
