He did it all, and he stood tall, and he did it his way.
Vincent Michael Telesco, 90, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on July 28, 2025, surrounded by loving family.
Vincent, lovingly known as Vince, was born on October 8, 1934, in Peapack, New Jersey, to William and Theresa Telesco. He attended Bernards High School, completing his studies in just three years. At 17, Vince proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany, where he served honorably for two years. Following his military service, he earned a baseball and choir scholarship to Upsala College, graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts in History.
In 1959, Vince began his long and distinguished career with the Morris School District in Morristown, New Jersey, starting as an eighth-grade teacher. Fondly known as "Mr. T," he went on to serve in nearly every role within the district, including guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal, supervisor of pupil services, assistant superintendent, and ultimately acting superintendent. While advancing through these positions, he earned a Master's Degree in Administration and pursued doctoral studies. He officially retired in 1995, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to the community.
Although Vince was deeply dedicated to his career and service to the community, he was equally committed to being a loving husband, father, and friend. Vince married Nancy White on August 20, 1960, in East Orange, New Jersey, and they shared 65 wonderful years. True to his word from their very first date, Vince promised Nancy he would marry her-and he did. Together, they raised two children, Vinnie and Terri. In 1968, the family moved from Basking Ridge to Califon, New Jersey, where they spent 27 years raising their children, involving themselves in the community, and forming many close and lasting friendships. In 1995, Vince and Nancy moved to Sarasota, Florida, where they purchased land and built a home in Serenoa with a stunning sunset view of the eighth hole. Here, they formed deep and cherished friendships with his neighbors, who became like family over the years.
Music was one of Vince's greatest joys, and he shared his talents generously with others. A devoted member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, he sang in the choir for many years and was also part of the God Squad, a traveling group of musicians who brought music to residents of local nursing homes, memory care centers, and assisted living facilities. However, Vince's generosity and dedication extended beyond music-he was actively involved in every community he joined. He served as President of the HOA in Serenoa, founded the Little League in Califon, New Jersey, sang in the choirs of St. Joseph's and St. Thomas More, played on the Serenoa Golf Team, participated in the Men's Club at St. Thomas More, and contributed to his communities in countless other ways. His presence left a lasting impression wherever he went.
Vince was a man of integrity, kindness, and compassion. Honest and a natural leader, he always looked out for others. Family and friends remember him as generous, talented, hardworking, and caring, always ready with a listening ear and wise advice. His warmth and example left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
Remaining to cherish Vincent's memory are his wife, Nancy Telesco; children, Vinnie Telesco and Terri Telesco; grandchildren, Emily McGuirk and Annie McGuirk; brothers, Donald Telesco and Joe Telesco; sister, Mary Wasmucky; and nieces and nephews, Cathie, Carol, Joanne, David, Michael, Johnny, Gina, Karen, Michelle. Preceding Vincent in death are his parents, William Telesco and Theresa Telesco; brother, Vito Telesco; and sister, Philomina Telesco.
Funeral Mass will be held August 30, 2025 at 9:30am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Celebration of Life reception will follow at the St. Thomas More Spirit Center.
