Viola Carden Riley

DURHAM: Viola Carden Riley, 98, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. She was born in Durham, the daughter of the late Spencer and Eva Cates Carden. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Riley was also predeceased by her husband, Gary Clifton Riley; and grandson, Jeff Hunt.
Mrs. Riley was a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church. She loved her family dearly.
Mrs. Riley is survived by her daughters, Nellie Hunt, Barbara Wrenn; grandchildren, Lisa Taylor, Amy Womble (Burt), Dawn Burhans (Andrew), Andi Tart (Jeff), Danny Hunt (Marjorie); great-grandchildren, Hunter Tart, Bailey Tart, Alex Tart, Mason Hunt, Davis Hunt, Owen Hunt, Tucker Burhans, Cameron Burhans, Emma Cate Burhans, Gray Womble, Savannah Womble, Lauren Womble, Ben Goodwin; and great-great-grandchild, Levi Tart.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 23rd at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff McCarthy officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
