VIOLET M. DANIEL
1927 - 2025
Violet Marion Daniel (nee: Bone); Age 97 of Southfield, Michigan passed away Monday, January 13, 2025 in Oakland Township, Michigan.
97 years. What a full life!
Violet was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 25, 1927, the eldest child of Wallace and Marion Bone (nee: Gunn), of Redford, Michigan. She is survived by her youngest sister, Joyce Bluhm of Fletcher, North Carolina. Her siblings, Ronald, Wallace and Gloria preceded her in passing. She attended Redford High School and studied speech and debate at Wayne State University.
Violet was married in 1950 to George Daniel, and they moved into the house he built in Southfield that year, where they lived until George's passing in 2016. They had five children: Nancy of Cleveland, Ohio; Patricia (the late Brian) Birch of Washington Township; Diane (Doug) Holt of Shelby Township; Linda (Fred) Stueve of Burns, Wyoming; and Geoffrey (Cathy) of Rochester Hills. Violet greatly enjoyed her seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Violet was primarily a mother and homemaker during her children's youth. She was active in the Southfield Schools PTA. Her family worshipped at Southfield United Presbyterian Church, where the children attended bible school and gained appreciation of music in the church choir. Although not a trained vocalist or instrumentalist, she supported her children's musical training and engaged in "band boosters" in the school system. She also joined the Royal Oak Musicale and the Michigan Federation of Music Clubs.
As a "numbers" person, Violet became a bookkeeper when her children left home. She worked for years in the fashion industry, first at Leather Loft and then at Hattie's as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed games and puzzles, and her penmanship was unparalleled!
George's lifelong interest in aviation was contagious, and Violet also earned her private pilot's license. She and George had many trips and adventures with MANG Aero Club, and with the Beechcraft Bonanza they shared with their partners. They flew all over the USA – west to Catalina Island, southeast to the Bahamas, north into Canada, and many points between.
Upon George's passing, Violet moved from her home in Southfield to the Rochester, Michigan area, where she lived until her passing, peacefully and comfortably with caring support.
She will be interred with George at Acacia Park Cemetery in Southfield in late spring, with a memorial to follow.
She will be missed!
