Our firecracker has left us.
Violet Ekle came to visit from July 4th, 1924 to March 29th, 2025.
Violet, Aunt Sis, Mom, Grandma Vi was born in Red Lodge to Carl & Selma Loyning. She lived on Elbow Creek until she was 18 and attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse, the Loyning School. She graduated from Roberts High School in 1942. She married Stanley Ekle in 1942 and lived on Red Lodge Creek until they moved to Columbus in 1953.
Her life revolved around raising her six children, going to school functions, hosting big holiday dinners, baking cinnamon rolls, camping, and dancing. She retired from Stillwater Community Hospital after 30 years. After retiring she enjoyed traveling and also was a hostess at The 307 Bar & Grill. She belonged to American Legion Auxiliary, Homemaker's Club & Red Hat Society. Wear your hats Red Hat Ladies!
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 52 years, Stanley Ekle; sons Richard Ekle, Larry Ekle, Gerald Ekle & Dennis Ekle; daughter-in-law Shirley Ekle, parents Carl & Selma Loyning; brothers Palmer Loyning & Ray Loyning; sister Cora Egan & two infant sisters; great granddaughter Bailey Goode; & her good friend & dance partner Don Mason.
She is survived by her son Kenneth (Colleen) Ekle; daughter Cindy (Verle) Davison; daughter-in-law Paula Ekle; grandchildren; great grandchildren; & great great grandchildren.
Violet always had her hair done, nails painted, makeup on and wearing one of her many snazzy outfits. She loved any kind of celebration especially her 4th of July birthdays. She loved flowers and to wear a corsage for any special occasion. She drove, lived by herself and went camping well into her nineties. She loved having visitors, a good laugh, being with her family & friends, & sitting on the front porch waving at the people driving by.
Some words used to describe Violet: one of a kind, local legend, free spirit, resilient, a treasure, second mom; a sweetheart & amazing. There are no words to describe what she meant to her family & friends. Her advice for a long life is to "Eat, Drink and be Merry!". She will always be remembered as the life of the party, queen of the dance floor & the heart of our family.
"I loved my children, grandchildren, great grandchildren & great great grandchildren so much. I'll miss you & love you." - Mom & Grandma
