In Loving Memory of Violet Marie Hervey
Born into Life May 7, 1935 and Born into Eternal Life October 19, 2025
It is with a mixture of profound sadness and celebration of a life lived well that I announce the passing of my beloved mother. She was the last of her siblings, a matriarch whose strength, generosity, and vibrant spirit defined her 90 remarkable years.
Born and raised in Manchester, England, she came of age in the 1950s. It was during this time she met and married her love, Roosevelt Hervey, an American Air Force man. Their love story became the foundation of a family built on unwavering devotion.
Together, Mom and Dad were the heart of our extended family. They selflessly served as pillars of support for relatives on both sides of the Atlantic, offering guidance, comfort, and a helping hand to many throughout their lives. Mom lived a selfless life. Her strong faith and devotion to her husband and family were her greatest legacies.
She was a woman of incredible spirit-outgoing, positive, and friendly. She loved life and loved her family deeply. She had a refreshing honesty, never hesitating to let you know exactly how she felt. Her strength was rooted in a deep, abiding faith that guided her throughout her life.
This faith and her independent nature were an inspiration to all, especially in her later years. At the age of 90, she traveled to her hometown of Manchester, England, where her family gathered to celebrate her 90th birthday. She then checked off her bucket-list with a trip to the sun-drenched Greek islands of Athens, Tinos, and Santorini.
She was the rock and anchor of the family, a woman who loved to laugh, have fun, and find joy in every moment. Her generous nature, positive outlook, and unwavering love have left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Roosevelt along with her parents, Thomas and Annie Peters, brothers Tommy and Alfred Peters, her sisters Irene Stanton, Primrose Peters, and Pearl Patron. She is survived by her daughter, Regina Yitbarek (Ephraim), and Regina's half-sister Donna Jones (Richard), grandchildren Rachel and Hannah Hervey and many nieces and nephews here and abroad. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength with family and friends who were blessed to know her.
She will be deeply missed, but her extraordinary life will be forever cherished and celebrated.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated and live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/StJeromeNewportNews
at 12 Noon, Friday, November 7, 2025 at Saint Jerome's Catholic Church where Violet was a member for over 45 years. A private internment will be held at Albert G. Horton Veterans cemetery at a later date.
