Virendra Kumar Gupta

Dear Virendra K Gupta passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. He is survived by his wife Uma to whom he was married for 60 years, son Atul, and grandson Rohan, daughter Anju, son-in-law Steve, and granddaughter Anika.
Virendra was born in Muzaffarnagar, India to Om Prakash and Vidya Wati. He was the oldest of six children, all of which he mentored throughout his life. He attended Roorkee University earning a degree in Civil Engineering and the University of Rochester earning an Executive MBA. Virendra moved to the US in 1969 and spent most of his life in Rochester, NY.
"Gupta ji", as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in helping the community. He lived a life driven by integrity, honesty, hard work, and service to others.
He worked as the Town Engineer for the Town of Henrietta and as a Professional Engineer in the Buildings Department for the City of Rochester.
Gupta ji was a pillar of the Indian community and could always be counted on to assist with all matters such as taking a foreign student under his wing or helping people in need of any kind. He served as a past president of the India Association of Rochester and also served on the Board of Trustees for the Hindu Temple of Rochester. He was also Treasurer of the National Association of Indians in America. He also wholeheartedly supported the Gaudiya Mission of Rochester. He volunteered on the Diversity Council at the University of Rochester and was a member of the philanthropic Wilson Society of the University of Rochester. He was also very involved with the alumni association of IIT Roorkee where he established a grant to continuously fully fund the tuition of four students to attend Roorkee University.
Gupta ji was passionate about gardening and enjoyed daily meditation and light yoga in the company of his dear friends. He enjoyed investing and was very generous sharing his knowledge and resources with others. Gupta ji was always seeking opportunities to help members of the community.
