Virgie Bush Obituary

Virgie Ellen Bush, born on February 6, 1934, in Gays Creek, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was known for her nurturing spirit, creativity, and deep commitment to her family.

Virgie was one of ten children and often fondly reminisced about the strong family ties that shaped her life. She embraced every opportunity to bring her loved ones together, cherishing family time above all else. Her passion for cooking and baking was well-known, and her talents in canning and gardening made her a true homemaker. Virgie enjoyed time to herself tending her flower beds. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Charlestown, and enjoyed the visits that they made to visit with her and LaRue.

Virgie worked at the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant, where she initially began her work inside the plant and later excelled as the groundskeeper. This role not only showcased her strong work ethic but also her deep appreciation for nature and the environment.

Virgie's adventurous spirit led to memorable trips with her sisters, where they explored destinations in Canada, Michigan, and Tennessee. These excursions were not just about travel but were significant bonding experiences that forged lifelong memories, all it took was for one of them to mention a place, and off they would go.

Throughout her life, Virgie was known for her unwavering kindness. She embraced the role of caregiver, a true "What can I do to take care of you?" person. This was an extension of  her love and support to everyone she encountered.

Virgie is survived by her loving husband, LaRue Bush, with whom she shared 74 years of marriage. She is also remembered by her sister, Shirley Wright, and brother, Dale Spicer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Rosie Smith Spicer, her son, Stewart Lee Bush, as well as her siblings: Pearlie Mc Clery, Adilene Campbell, Jane Dean, Jack Spicer, James Spicer, Samuel Spicer, and Eugene Spicer.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Grayson Funeral Home - Charlestown, located at 893 High Street, Charlestown, IN. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 2:00 PM, also at the funeral home. The burial will take place at Wesley Chapel, 6240 N Bogardus Rd, Austin, IN, at 3:00 PM.
