On September 24th, 2025, Miree Cravens [Virgie Miree (Shook) Cravens] passed away peacefully following a several months long battle with Cancer. She was 85 years of age.
Miree is survived by two Sisters; Becky Mathes of Amarillo, TX and Dorothy (Lloyd) Gilliland of Broken Arrow, OK; her sons, Troy Lyn Nevins and wife Pamela, Glen Carl Cravens and wife Polly; and daughters Deena Miree Bueno, and Holly Lorine Cravens. She is also survived by 9 Grandchildren, 26 Great grandchildren, 1 Great, great grandson, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Cravens and parents, Hollis and Catherine Shook.
Miree was born in Weatherford, TX on March 14th, 1940. Her father was a Methodist Minister so the family moved numerous times throughout New Mexico and Texas during her school years. She graduated from Deming High School in 1958. She married Lamar in 1963 shortly after meeting on a blind date. After several years of living in Albuquerque, they moved to Capitan, NM where Lamar first taught school. Three years later they moved to Bloomfield, NM and eventually ended up in Moriarty, NM.
Miree worked off and on throughout her adult years, primarily in administrative and clerical roles, and was always helping Lamar with work on the farm or ranch whenever needed. She provided administrative support to the City of Moriarty for a number of years. Miree was musically inclined and loved to sing and play piano/organ. She sang in a local ladies’ singing group and also played the organ for Bethel United Methodist Church in Moriarty for many years. She would spend her spare time quilting, crocheting, or working needlepoint, and made either an afghan or quilt for every Grandchild, and for almost every one of the Great grandchildren. Her and Lamar loved to travel, and in their later years took several trips overseas to include tours of England, Ireland, Israel, and several different European river cruises.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Valley View Christian Church in Edgewood, NM on Friday, 3 October, 2025 beginning at 10:30am followed by a short social period with food and refreshments provided by the church. Burial will take place at Mountain View Cemetery in Moriarty, NM at 1:30 in the afternoon.
