Mr. Virgil Junior Bartley, age 80 of Lowgap, passed away peacefully Friday morning, January 9, 2026, at his home. He was born July 27, 1945, in Surry County to the late Mack Elbert Bartley and Zora Amanda Jane Richardson Bartley. Mr. Bartley attended Roaring Gap Baptist Church and was baptized by friend and pastor Joe Atkins. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 wonderful years, Nancy Dickens Bartley; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Teddy Edwards; son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Misti Bartley; granddaughter, Madalyn Edwards; brother, Hassell Bartley; special friend and caregiver, Jan Atkins; and a host of other family and friends.
Mr. Bartley was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed spending his free time hunting and going on fishing trips. Mr. Bartley enjoyed golfing with friends and loved listening to bluegrass music. He retired from the North Carolina Division of Highways after serving as the maintenance supervisor for several years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bartley was preceded in death by his brother, James Curtis Bartley; sister, Milla Lee Johnson; and mother-in-law Doris Johnson Dickens. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 12, 2026, at 1:00pm at Roaring Gap Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 11:00am – 1:00pm. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Bartley family.
