Virgil Harry Beving of Ackley, Iowa passed away peacefully on May 30, 2024, at the age of 91. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at East Friesland Presbyterian Church in Ackley with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.
Virgil was born on May 9, 1933, to Harry and Pauline (Fritz) Beving. He attended Ackley High School and graduated in 1950. After farming with his father, he enlisted into the Air Force in March of 1952 and became inactive in 1956 with his full discharge from the Air Force in 1960. During his time stationed at McConnell Air Force base in Wichita, Kansas, Virgil met Sylvia Ladman and they were united in marriage on October 24, 1953. While in Kansas, they welcomed two sons, Gary Craig, and Steven Kent. In 1956 they moved back to the family farm in Ackley and began farming with his brother, Eugene. They were blessed with two more sons, Terry Paul, and Lonny Dean. Virgil farmed for another 50 years and retired in 2005. Virgil and Syliva celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary in October of 2023.
Virgil was a member of the East Friesland Presbyterian Church in Ackley for his entire life, where he served as an Elder, Trustee and Deacon. He also served his community as a member of Lions Club International and the American Legion 252. As a member of the Lions, he served ice cream during Sauerkraut Days and helped with the local blood drive. Virgil enjoyed his nightly popcorn and ice cream, along with his afternoon Dr. Pepper.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Eugene Beving and sister-in-law, JoAnn Beving, and sister LaVonne Beving Aldinger.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Ladman) Beving, his children, Gary (Marcia) Beving, Steven (Linda) Beving, Terry (Anne) Beving and Lonny (Susan) Beving. Also, his grandchildren, Lani (Clay) Miller, Ali (Jared) Schulte, Heather Beving, Josh (Andrea) Beving, Heidi Beving, Hunter Campbell, and Lucas Beving. Also, his great grandchildren, Kylee, Karter, Kole and Kael Beving, Noah Beving, Davis Miller, and Olivia Schulte. Also, his sister, Paulette (Darrell) Courtney and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
