Virgil Leon Kitchens

Virgil Leon Kitchens, 80, of Bartlesville, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
Virgil was born April 21, 1944, in Bartlesville, to David Leon and Mary Katherine (Cox) Kitchens. He attended Bartlesville Public Schools. While in Bartlesville's Col-High, Virgil started working at O'Brien Feed Store, where he worked for the next 15 years. He then went to work at Bartlesville Public Schools, where he spent the next 48 years working as a supply clerk and in other necessary positions for the school system. He was the first person to receive BPS's Support Person of the Year, an award he received more than once.
Virgil married the love of his life, Achsah Marie Drum, on September 20, 1966, in Bartlesville. Virgil was first and foremost a loving family man. He left a lasting loving impression on anyone he met. He adored and loved his children and grandchildren.
His hobbies included fishing, music, and going to the casinos. He took some memorable fishing trips to Texoma. Virgil loved watching old westerns, especially John Wayne and Ben Johnson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Achsah Marie (Drum) Kitchens; two children, Mary Ellen Lewis and husband Ed, and Virgil Allen Kitchens; two brothers, David John Kitchens and wife Peggy, and Arnold GC Kitchens; four grandchildren, Ashley Robinson and husband Ray, Andy Lewis and wife Amy, Clint Lewis and wife Alyssa, and Logan Lewis and wife Adrianna; six great-grandchildren, Theresa Burroughs and husband Lane, Sarah Tidwell, Annie Lewis, Colton Lewis, Cleo Lewis, and Cypress Lewis; and two great-great-grandchildren, Huntley and Ashley. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jimmie Lee Kitchens; and a sister, Mary Katherine Kitchens.
Virgil's family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel, 113 S. Osage Ave., Dewey, OK 74029, 918-534-3030. Visitation will also be held that day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2024, at Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel, with the Rev. Lonnie Hoelscher officiating. Inurnment will follow at Stokes Cemetery.
