Virgil “Wayne” McKinney, of Wentzville, MO, passed away Monday, September 15, 2025 at the age of 84. Beloved husband to Joyce McKinney; cherished son of the late Chester Schewe and the late Francis Schewe; devoted father of LaTish McKinney; dear brother of Margaret (the late Jess) Wilkinson and the late Bill (Joan) McKinney.

Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years, spending 16 months stationed in Bermuda, before continuing his service in the Air Guard and National Guard. He later dedicated more than 20 years as a police officer and detective with the Jennings Police Department before retiring and continuing his career at McDonnell Douglas.

Wayne was married to the love of his life, Joyce, for 64 wonderful years, and together they shared a love of traveling—whether cruising, visiting Vegas, Branson, the Ozarks, Tunica, or especially spending time in Florida.

A friendly man who never met a stranger, he was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed fly fishing, reading, history. Wayne had an incredible memory and was known for his wit, intelligence, and his great sense of humor. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Wayne’s honor to a charity of your choice.
